The Young Liberals have a new president.

Cory Stevenson, a 22-year-old from Springton, near Hunter River, was acclaimed as president during the Young Liberals' annual meeting recently.

Stevenson is a fifth-year student at UPEI. He's studying education.

"I've been involved with the party since 2000," he said in an interview.

"They got me licking envelopes, going door-to-door with flyers. I didn't even know who the name of the candidate was at the time."

The Young Liberals annual meeting was held at Ise's Bar in Charlottetown.

There was only one race for an executive post. Sean Court defeated Chelsey Condon for the post of vice-president, organization.

Matt Weeks is vice-president, finance.

Oliver Tweel is vice-president, policy.

Cody MacRae is vice-president, communication.

Executive vice-president is Krystal Cousins.

Stevenson replaces Timothy Cullen as president. Cullen stepped down to take on the role as president of the UPEI Student Union.

Stevenson said he wants to see more youth get involved in the political process. He also wants to see more youth involvement from rural areas of the province and is planning to have events in different parts of the province.

"They always seem to be involved around an election, which is great. But I'd like to get more youth involved in the whole political process."
